I feel like there are a lot of misconceptions about what a psychic or mediumship reading is—and what it isn’t. So I’m hoping to clear up a few things with this post.

As with anything I share, this is from my perspective and my own experience. Your experience may vary.

My TikTok channel is called Hunter’s Intuitive Guidance. I could have easily called it Psychic Hunter, but I chose the word guidance for a reason.

To me, psychic readings, tarot readings, and mediumship are not really about the reader having all the answers.

They are about guidance.

A reading can show you the energy around your life right now and where that energy may be leading if everything continues down the same path. I think this is one of the biggest misunderstandings people have about readings. Some people treat every prediction as if it is set in stone.

I do believe there are certain things in life that may be meant to happen, but I also believe there are many things that can change.

In fact, getting a reading can sometimes change the outcome the reading showed you. Once you have more information, you may make a different decision. You may change your behavior, take another path, or decide that you are perfectly happy continuing in the direction you are already going.

That is why I see a reading as information, not instructions.

Whether you are receiving a tarot reading, a psychic reading, using dowsing rods or a pendulum, or having a mediumship reading, it should not feel like driving directions telling you to turn left here, turn right there, and suddenly your life will be perfect.

A reading should give you perspective. It can help you understand what may be happening around you and give you information to consider, but ultimately the decisions are still yours.

Predictions and Free Will

I’m not saying psychics cannot predict things.

From my own experience, I have predicted many things that later turned out to be correct. My teacher, Orion, has also made many predictions involving my life, my family members, and other people we both know that turned out to be accurate.

So this isn’t about saying predictions are not real. It is about remembering that a prediction does not always mean you are locked into that future.

If you do not like where the current path appears to be leading, you may be able to change direction.

To me, that is part of the value of a reading.

It isn't just about knowing what might happen. Sometimes it is about having information that allows you to decide what you want to do next.

Give a Reading Time to Settle

Something else I think is important is getting too many readings too close together.

If someone on TikTok is doing free yes-or-no questions or inexpensive readings and you want to have a little fun, that is one thing. But constantly getting full readings back to back can actually make things more confusing instead of clearer.

Most readers are working with the energy around you, and while energy can change, it usually does not make sense to assume everything has completely changed just because a week has passed.

If you had a reading last week, you probably do not need another full reading this week just to ask the same questions again.

Follow-up questions are different. Sometimes a reading brings up something you genuinely want to understand better. But even then, I would encourage you to sit with the reading for a little while first.

Listen to your own intuition. Think about what was said. Think about how it feels to you before immediately looking for another person to give you another answer.

You don't want to get to the point where you are depending on readers to make decisions for you.

That is another reason I built my practice around the word guidance. I am not here simply to tell someone what is going to happen. I am here to share what I receive and what I see around the situation so the person can make their own informed decision.

Choosing the Right Reader

Another important part of getting a reading is choosing the right reader for you.

Be careful about who you receive readings from. Not everybody will have the same ethics, approach, or intentions.

I am not saying my ethics are the only correct ethics. Every reader has to decide how they practice. But you should find someone whose energy and approach make you feel comfortable and respected.

You should be able to ask questions about how they work and what you can expect. You should also feel comfortable saying when something does not feel right to you.

A reader may be there to guide you, but that does not mean you give up your own judgment.

You Are Allowed to Have Boundaries

Before a reading starts, it can also help to think about your own boundaries.

How deep do you want the reader to go? Is there anything you do not want discussed?

If you are having a mediumship reading, are you comfortable with whoever may come through?

Maybe a male energy comes through and you realize it could be your grandfather—but perhaps your relationship with him was difficult and you do not want to communicate with him.

That is a boundary you should be able to express.

A lot of people are open to whatever comes through, and that is completely fine too. The important thing is knowing that you are allowed to have boundaries in your own reading.

At the same time, respect the reader’s boundaries as well.

If someone offers a five-card reading, respect that they are offering a five-card reading. It is okay to ask a follow-up question or ask whether they can go a little deeper, but do not put the reader in an uncomfortable position or expect more than what was agreed upon.

A good reading should involve mutual respect.

The reader should respect you, your choices, and your boundaries, and you should respect theirs.

Guidance Should Not Take Away Your Power

At the end of the day, I believe a reading should leave you with more perspective—not less control over your life.

A psychic, medium, tarot reader, or intuitive can offer information and guidance, but they are not living your life for you.

Take what you receive and sit with it.

Trust your own intuition.

Think about what feels right to you, and then make your own decision.

That doesn't mean you have to ignore the guidance you were given. It means you use that guidance as one piece of information while remembering that your life still belongs to you.

Guidance can point something out along the path, but you are still the one walking it.
